There has been a lot going on lately and now in the Capricorn lunar cycle we may arrive at a culmination point of some sort, in our lives. The house where the new moon in Capricorn is transiting in your astrological chart is the area of your life where you can experience this culmination. Results and rewards will start to show up now, or we may come to realize how overwhelmed we are feeling in this area of our lives (Capricorn 1°32’).
In Capricorn, we are being called to do that difficult thing we feel we have to do, or deal with that issue we have been avoiding for so long. This is a time to face and finally overcome some of our fears about something in our lives. If we don’t, we may just be controlled by them after all. This is a time to face and finally overcome some of our limitations, because if we don’t, we may just be restrained and imprisoned by them after all. It can really feel like a threshold in Capricorn, and our choices should be made with extreme caution and forethinking, because they really mean everything at this point.
In Capricorn, we inevitably reap what we have sown, and that includes reaping what doesn't serve us anymore, putting an end to it. Just like reaping, it should be quick and precise, so we don’t cause harm to the overall structure of the plant, in this case, our soul. We also need to have discernment so we don’t take the chaff for the wheat.
December 23rd: Capricorn New Moon
Sun and Moon conjunct at 1°32’ of Capricorn
Sun and Moon square Jupiter in Aries critical 1° degree
In Capricorn, we are supposed to deal with certain responsibilities and duties that we have accepted in life. We are being called to embody our dharma and face the consequences of all of our past actions. So, Capricorn requires that we be extremely cautious and determined to keep going, no matter what.
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, which is now in Aquarius. This has caused us to undergo many changes in fundamental structures of our lives, individually and collectively. Long lasting patterns and conditions are now being reformed, because they have become outdated and troublesome. They may have worked well before, but not anymore. And, in Aquarius, these changes and reformations impact large groups of people, collectively speaking, and other people besides ourselves only, individually speaking.
So, we are talking about life changing decisions and choices which are leading to the new start represented by Jupiter in Aries. This is a new beginning in our consciousness and beliefs, a new hope, a broader understanding about something. Jupiter in the very beginning of Aries is offering us a vision of a better life. This is a time when we may envision our ideal future, our highest hopes and how we can manifest a new phase in our lives, a new beginning.
But this new moon is in a square, a tense aspect of 90 degrees apart from Jupiter in Aries, in the very beginning of the zodiac. It means there are things we just need to take care of, manage and show up for now (Capricorn), before that new phase can emerge. We want to tell a new story, live a new phase, experience a new possibility for us, and we may feel the pressure to expand, but there are things that we just need to take care of and deal with before we can breathe some fresh air.
The part of your chart where this new moon falls by transit, that is, the house which has 1°32’ of Capricorn in it, is where we can set a new intention. In Capricorn, we are being called to take all the responsibility for ourselves and our life’s choices. We are being called to mature, to grow up and show up for our dharma, our soul’s commitments in this life. Use this new moon to set an intention to help you with that maturing process. Light up a candle, take some deep breaths to feel your body and be present. Then, speak out your intention clearly, tell the universe that you really want to grow and become the authority of your own life and destiny. If you can relate this to a specific situation of your life, include this in your intention. The house where this new moon falls in your chart points to the area of your life where you are being called to be more mature about.
Venus in Capricorn trine Uranus in Taurus
Really, we should not worry about pleasing others during this time. Venus in Capricorn helps us stay in our power, and relate to others on a very solid, clear and realistic approach. There can even be coldness in relationships, but during this time it can actually help us in dealing with our more childish emotions.
This is a time for self-sufficiency in relationships. Not to say there is no need for a relationship, but actually we can be more self-sufficient inside a relationship, that is, we can be more mature or maturity can be gained in relationships when we finally recognize the power of our own choices and their consequences.
This new moon is activating the North Node in Taurus, because during this new moon, Venus is in a harmonic aspect, a trine, to the North Node in Taurus, which is Venus’ sign of rulership. Long-term, purposeful and down to Earth choices can lead to positive change in personal resources. Stay tuned to your core values and you’ll see some unexpected opportunities show up for you!
Mercury in Capricorn sextile Neptune in Pisces
Mars retrograde in Gemini (soon to turn direct, on January 12th)
Mars inconjunct the South Node in Scorpio
There is support now for us in letting go, forgiving and even forgetting things which caused us pain in the past. Actually, because of the rare and powerful conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces this year, there has been a lot of support for us in ending cycles and letting go.
With Mars in Gemini, we can feel the urge to move on and experiment, but both the retrograde and all the Capricorn energy show us that we have to be cautious and disciplined. So, instead of heading up into our new ideas right now, we should actually use this time to rewrite and reprogram something so we can better detach from past experiences which no longer need to be withheld in our emotional bodies. This is a wise preparation for what is to come.
December 30th: Aries First Quarter
This is the waxing phase of the Capricorn Lunar Cycle of 2022, which started with the new moon in Capricorn on December 23rd. Now, when the Moon reaches the sign of Aries, we see the Sun and the Moon 90 degrees apart from each other which configures a Square, a tense astrological aspect which prompts us to take action. It feels like a challenge but it is actually a pressure to grow.
This first quarter moon is occurring in Aries, the fire cardinal sign ruled by Mars. This is an energy of passionate will, self-will, self-assertion and an overall boldness. It means we can use this energy to take action now and just open the way for a new beginning, for something that we truly want. But there is a risk of being reckless and even aggressive.
Remember that we are in the Capricorn lunar cycle and this cycle calls for responsibility and caution. We really have to know what is our true will, what we truly want, with all our hearts, to experience in life. We need to know who we are and what we stand for. This is not a time to be in a rush. Actually, with both Mars and Mercury in retrograde motion, which means they are apparently moving backwards in the sky, well, it is showing us that we should also revisit some places and review some of our plans, just to make sure.
Mercury retrograde conjunct Venus in Capricorn
When Venus meets up with Mercury, then Mercury turns retrograde. Venus is activating Mercury. This means that what you are choosing for yourself, maybe unconsciously, what you intimately feel you deserve, is causing you to take some time to think. Think if your relationships are corresponding to your current sense of self-value, if they improve your self-worth and self-love or degenerate it. Think if your material resources and the things you appreciate in life are corresponding to your personal abundance and prosperity, if they strengthen or weaken your soul. Think if you are accessing all the good stuff the universe and life have to offer you. Well, if you haven’t accessed the good stuff, then this is certainly a time for a change.
Venus in Capricorn trine Uranus in Taurus
This is a time for turning points and upheavals. Something changes in our values system. Those who are on top are starting to come down to Earth, those who are as low as underground, will start to see some light. Turning points mean different things for different people, but for all of us it implies some change in status, some change in things that have been going on for a long time. Something has reached a peak and now it’s time to gather all the results we got and move on.
So, there is ease in making a change (also the Sun is in trine with the North Node), but there will be, as also, an opportunity to stay in what you know (Sun sextile South Node). In Capricorn, we are supposed to concentrate on what matters, on what we know we need to handle. Because Mars (ruler of this first quarter in Aries) is in Gemini, and retrograde, there is no need to rush a decision just yet. We are blessed with the time to think and think again. Mercury in Capricorn is now retrograde too. The universe is offering us a chance to be extremely cautious now, because it is needed.
As much free will we have, still the universe is trying to make us take the path which attunes to our soul growth, the path which takes us to real freedom (Uranus). Still the universe also offers us the other way round, if that’s what we choose.
Mars retrograde in Gemini, involved in two Yod configurations
There are two Yod configurations in the sky, one takes us to the past (South Node) if we act impulsively when we shouldn’t (Mars retrograde in Gemini) and just driven by our immediate needs (Moon in Aries). The other Yod takes us to renewal and growth (North Node) if we are conscious of our duties, our fears and limitations (Sun in Capricorn), and what has held us back (South Node), helping us getting clearer on our thought and plans (Mars retrograde in Gemini).
It may feel overwhelming in Capricorn, yes. But we should call upon the wisdom of Saturn, the ruler of this sign, to cope with it. As much as there are the biggest challenges in Capricorn, there are, as also, the biggest rewards. The things you just can’t do, they need to be delegated. The ultimate goal is not to have that status quo, the merit of having “earned it all by yourself”, but to make something work in a practical and responsible manner for yourself and others. Capricorn is about being realistic. But because there are many planets in Capricorn now, we can even be pessimistic and rigid, even arrogant. We may reap the bad and the good harvest now, so we need to make a wise choice in keeping the good grains.
These are the challenges that we have the time to prepare for, and so, be aware that, when Saturn calls us for maturity, we have already been given the time to mature. In most cases, it is just a matter of being in control of our uncomfortable emotions and irresponsible actions. And that is not to say we can’t have feelings or be spontaneous. Actually, it is about being the mature one in control of our childish nature. And just like having control of your children is no easy task, having control of your inner child is not easy either! And that’s because we need to acknowledge and embrace our uncomfortable emotions and wild instincts, before we can have some control over them.
So, this is a time for wise choices. We will carry our past experiences with us, at least some of them, into the beginning of the new cycle, which we are just starting to visualize with Jupiter in Aries. The thing is: what are you putting in your bag to start this journey? What are you taking with you into your new phase? Jupiter will take about 12 years to travel all the way around the zodiac wheel, so this decision is affecting your 12 years to come.
May we make the wise choice to attune to the universe, attune to our souls and our soul growth. This is a time to be aware of our soul’s energies, what we need, what we have to offer, what we can handle and manage in this life, and, above all, what is worth our time and effort, for real.
January 6th: Cancer Full Moon
This Cancer full moon is the culmination of the Capricorn Lunar Cycle of 2022, which started with the new moon in Capricorn on December 23rd. Now, when the Moon reaches the sign of Cancer, we see the Sun and the Moon 180 degrees apart from each other which configures an Opposition, a tense astrological aspect which exposes our inner contradictions and prompts us to find balance. The full moon shows us what we can meet and receive, so we can find that balance.
During this cycle, we have been developing the intentions and new possibilities generated during the Capricorn New Moon. This has been a maturing process, which I have explained in my videos about this new moon and first quarter moon, respectively. Now, during the Cancer full moon, we are being called to join our inner child and embrace our most cherished emotions. We need to feel loved! And feeling loved is what balances and softens all the heavy work our soul might have been lately.
I believe not all people can perceive it that way. For many, there can be just a lot of fear and boundaries for their desires. Not to diminish other people’s experiences, but I believe that not everyone resonates with their souls in the present time, and that can make life’s experiences at this time just seem very limiting and frightening. But those who can resonate with their souls to some extent, may realize how important this time on Earth is to make that soul awareness grow, and to operate powerful changes through spiritual will. And it has been a lot of work.
So, during the Cancer full time, we might just see and feel what we need to soften our hearts a bit, what makes us feel loved and who is dear to us, who we want to have around. This is a time to rest and relax, be at home and with loved ones, after such a hard work or mental overwhelm.
This is also a time to be a little indulgent, especially with yourself.
Sun conjunct Mercury retrograde in Capricorn
So, the Moon kept on moving after the new moon in Capricorn on December 23rd, and just when the Moon re-entered Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, just around the same time Mercury made a conjunction with Venus and then turned retrograde. This has taken us to the past in a way, to revisit some old issues, so we can be more prepared for the future (Saturn in Aquarius). These are extremely important issues that relate to our dharma, our soul purpose in life. Whatever house this transit is occurring in your natal chart, it shows where you have some important decisions to make, responsibilities to take and long-lasting issues that you must resolve before moving on. This is a time to collect the karma and embody the dharma, once and for all.
With this retrogradation of Mercury (which will last until January 18th), we can finally understand something, and get clearer on our personal responsibilities, our capacities as well as our limitations. We finally understand something more about healthy boundaries. And it makes us feel better about ourselves and more comfortable being who we are (Moon in Cancer).
If we have been struggling to make an important decision, or maybe we have been moving back and forward in a decision, now the universe is helping us in choosing what is right for us, what is taking us where we really want to go. We can now be totally aware of our emotional choices, and if we are choosing something out of fear or out of love.
Sun and Mercury in Capricorn trine Uranus in Taurus
Moon in Cancer sextile Uranus in Taurus
Maturity and time are not the only keepers of spiritual wisdom. Our inner child also offers us wisdom. With a naïve look at life and genuine emotions, we can actually be more aware of what nurtures our soul, what emotional fulfillment means for us, what makes us feel loved and supported in life. That is not always obvious, especially when we mature and grow older and need to make an effort to remember our inner child’s feelings and needs. We also tend to become more rigid as we grow older, and it can become harder to make a change, even if we want the change.
This full moon is helping us in making a softer transition from the past into the future. The harmonic aspects to Uranus are helping us in being receptive to change, even sudden change. We can learn to accept the past as it was, if it has been difficult. And we can learn to accept what needs to change, for our own good.
The thing is that you may come to realize that convention is by no means more important than the will of the heart. Sometimes love can be revolutionary and the will to reform old paradigms need to be honored. It will always meet resistance but still, it needs to be honored because it comes from the soul which always makes choices out of love and not fear.
Venus in Aquarius
Venus sextile Jupiter and then Venus trine Mars, then…
Venus in square to the Nodes
Venus in Aquarius is activating future timelines, making larger connections. We may be willing to connect to certain people or groups which we feel more attuned to. We feel that they correspond to our new sense of value and what we want to carry on into the future.
Venus in Aquarius is helping us in understanding what really matters to us, what we want to pass on to others, maybe our children (if you’re a parent), or those people who take you as a model to follow. But the thing is that Venus in Aquarius is by no means concerned with how others will receive its authentic values and choices. We shouldn’t be concerned with that, rather, we should be concerned with how our choices impact others, especially in the long-term. So, Venus in Aquarius helps us in having that long-term, future oriented and progressive approach to our choices. We want to choose what fosters improvements, what offers soul growth and consciousness development. We want to choose what is authentic, authentic relationships based on a real mutual attraction. Authentic purchases based on a real necessity.
With Uranus transiting Venus’ sign of Taurus, since 2018 (and until 2026), this has been a long development. And it has impacted our perception of what we value and what we feel is good for us, both individually and collectively. It has impacted consumers' habits, nutrition and the use of natural resources, just to give you an idea of the overall picture of this long transit of Uranus in Taurus.
But during this transit of Venus in Aquarius, because Venus has just made a sextile (potentially harmonic aspect) with Jupiter in Aries, we have been given an opportunity to expand our personal will, to say what we really want and stand for it. And then, Venus makes a trine to Mars, and squares the Nodes of the Moon. Remember that Mars is just about to turn direct, and is actually moving very slowly. It means we are slowly getting clearer on our personal will, our next moves and how we intend to achieve that specific goal, or make that important decision. I really feel that the universe is providing us with all the time we need to think it through, and we should use this time to make a reality check (Capricorn) and check in with our souls, our unique spirit and life path.
So, during this cycle, we must remember that we are here to grow (Capricorn), but never lose sight of our inner child (Cancer), our wild soul. We should always remember to return to a pure and innocent state of mind, because this is our essential being, this is where we can give ourselves some powerful answers and solutions. This is where we can give birth to something new and more fulfilling, something that comes from the heart.
Always return to your inner source, your inner light, and you’ll be at peace with yourself.
January 15th: Libra Last Quarter
This is the closure of the Capricorn Lunar Cycle of 2022, which started with the new moon in Capricorn on December 23rd. Now, when the Moon reaches the sign of Libra, we see the Sun and the Moon again 90 degrees apart from each other, which configures a Square, just like in the first quarter moon. But now, this Square prompts us to empower ourselves through the wisdom gained during the whole lunar cycle, which prepares us for the next lunar cycle.
Libra is about creating peace and balance in our lives. It is about the right human relationship. Libra is ruled by Venus, and Venus has moved from Capricorn to Aquarius during this cycle, that is, Venus is helping us in maturing our values and choices, maturing our sense of self-worth so we can become more detached from other people’s judgements.
This is a time to move beyond affectionate relationships, which are emotional, into human partnerships, which are more emotionally detached. Partnerships connect us on a mental level, they stimulate cooperation, agreement, justice and an overall win-win relationship. Differently from purely emotional relationships, there is no attachment, no need to stay if there is no such win-win factor.
So, there is a need now for balanced and harmonic connections. Libra is about partnering and relating on a collaborative level. This is a time to find your inner peace, so you can also have peace with others. Peace doesn’t always mean friendship and union. Actually, Libra also teaches us to be diplomatic in disagreement, and fair in disputes.
Nothing can bring us peace, except the truth, and justice. Truth and justice give us the feeling that we can rest, because finally some order has been achieved. Order within, and then order outside of us. This is a time to rest in your peaceful consciousness. A time to be at peace with yourself and your consciousness. And, if you haven’t been at peace with yourself and consciousness, what is it that you need to do to achieve that inner peace? What truth do you need to face, in order to see what is really fair and harmonic in a situation? What is harmonic is always beautiful, and always takes us to a place of relaxation. We rest our minds when we finally find that peace.
Yod with Mars in Gemini, now direct, as focal point
Mercury soon to become direct too (January 18th)
Our bold choices can now slowly take form with Mars starting to move direct in Gemini. We can have something clearer in our mind about what we have to do, what we need to let go of or change so we can be more balanced and at peace with ourselves, so we can rest our heads peacefully at night.
