A Powerful New Beginning (Aries Lunar Cycle 2022)

New Moon in Aries

April 1st: Sun and Moon united (conjunct) at 11°30’ of Aries

Happy new year!

So, the Sun has crossed the last degrees of the whole zodiac, in Pisces, and has entered Aries, the bright new beginning, on March 20th. But it is on the first new moon of the astrological year that the intentions for the new cycle are set. That’s when the idea is ready to impregnate matter, to become a manifested reality. But in order to become a reality, that idea which is born in the Aries season must be infused with passion.

The Sun is exalted in Aries, which means that individual will is at its highest. It is time to take that idea, that dream from Pisces season, and make your move. Give it a chance. You may be surprised! But it won’t be easy, because Saturn is conjunct Mars, the ruler of Aries and therefore ruler of this new moon. There certainly is a great challenge, a great effort, to whatever your dream idea is, or whatever new implementations you are making to your ongoing projects.

Planets are all involved in conjunctions in this new moon, which suggests very strong and powerful energies. There are powerful dissolving energies with Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces (which I am preparing a post/video about). There are also revolutionary energies with Mars, Venus and Saturn in Aquarius. And there is the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Chiron, all in Aries, which can initiate a new cycle with great enthusiasm and assertion.

So, what is Aries about? Aries is the first “hour” of the zodiac “clock”. After the surrenders and endings of Pisces, and before the stabilizing and grounding energies of Taurus, we have Aries, which is about:

  • A new idea

  • Taking a chance

  • An audacious move

  • Desire and passion

  • Focused and assertive action

  • Taking the initiative

  • Being courageous

  • Leadership

  • Fighting for yourself

  • Defending your boundaries, your interests, self-defense

  • Survival

  • Competition

  • Independence

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Physical energy, the body

  • Physical pain and injuries to the body, especially the head and face

  • Being immature and irresponsible

  • Taking uncalculated risks

  • Exposing yourself too much

  • Aggressiveness

  • Rage and anger

  • Initiating conflict

  • Egotism

  • Selfishness

Sun, Moon, Mercury and Chiron united (conjunct) in Aries

A new moon in Aries is always a starting point, a “big bang”. But this new moon in Aries, however, is also conjunct Mercury and Chiron. This is a time for knowing where you are going. Focus your mind, be objective and assertive in your projects. It is time to have it clear!

Mercury is adding foresight and audacity to your mind. You can visualize exactly what direction you should follow, even if it is not possible to follow it yet. There can be a new mental pattern, a new information or a new idea that initiates a new phase in the Aries section of your natal astrological chart.

Chiron may be opening some wounds from past failures and frustrations, but we shouldn’t feel discouraged by it. Rather, we should use it wisely to avoid making the same mistakes from the past. Even though it can be delicate and even painful to touch some wounds, it is necessary for healing and purifying.

Mars, ruler of Aries

Venus, Mars and Saturn united (conjunct) in Aquarius, all in tension (square) with the Nodes of the Moon

Aries is ruled by Mars. So, to understand this cycle we need to consider Mars’s sign and aspects to other planets. Mars is in Aquarius, united with Saturn in Aquarius. Venus is not far, also in Aquarius. And they are all in tension with the Nodes of the Moon.

We are in a transitional time, where Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces are finishing up matters which are not in our hands to control. But Mars represents will power and this is in our hands! Will power to make some structural reformations, impactful and serious decisions about matters that took a long time to consolidate. We are talking about structures, both material and ideological, paradigms, an “absolute” of some sort.

But the thing is that, with Aquarius, what is solid suddenly ceases to be. Some frailty or flaw is exposed and then a process of change and reformation begins. Or maybe we just want to be free from the limitations of that structure.

Mars and Venus have united in Capricorn, also conjunct Pluto, in the last lunar cycle (I have also made a post about it). That was a time to initiate an intense transformation, where we may have experienced events that evoked some deep seated fears and emotions. But it was also a time for self-empowerment, where we experienced a culmination of some sort by facing up these fears and emotions.

Now Mars and Venus are in Aquarius, and conjunct Saturn, which suggests an edification of a new basis on top of an old one, a reformation of structures, a renovation of realities which were decaying. There is something in our lives we are given the opportunity to fix, reform and renovate now.

This is also a time for having maturity in our actions. Saturn is adding responsibility and wisdom. It takes time to build a solid renovated structure! There are things to be preserved and things to be discarded. We are also structuring our values along the way, both spiritual and material, and in Aquarius it may affect groups we participate in, those that follow or come after us (like our children) or even humanity as a whole. It is a collective process, be it on a small or large scale. And it is long-lasting, future oriented and even revolutionary, so we want to be as careful as possible in this.

But it can be harsh and restrictive too, not considering individuals’ needs. Aquarius is about the whole, the future and changes required in order for that future to be manifested. It is concerned with groups and systems, not individuals. And Uranus (co-ruler of Aquarius with Saturn) is in Taurus, which is ruled by Venus, while Venus is in Aquarius (what we call a mutual reception). So, there can be great perception around what is being desired on a collective level. The majority wins here.

Venus shows us what really matters to us, what really is in alignment with our self-worth. We attract what truly fits our inner value, what truly supports us in our spiritual growth. In Aquarius, it must be inventive, revolutionary, mind opening and social. There is a need to be aligned with the groups you participate in, sharing the same values and being recognized for who you are inside that group. If this isn’t happening, there will be a need to reform this reality too. So, this is a time of people changing their groups, changing location or interests.

Involving the Nodes of the Moon, even more strength is added to this triple conjunction. This is a co-creative process, meaning we are creating our reality along with nature’s powers. Our will power is beginning with this cycle (Sun and Moon in Aries), which is also being pushed by the strong dissolving forces of nature (Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces). May them dissolve what no longer resonates, the sorrow from past cycles and all attachment that must be transcended!

Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces in harmony (trine) with the South Node in Scorpio, potential harmony (sextile) with the North Node in Taurus

This aspect is giving me the visual of a small boat navigating on wide waters. But the ocean tights can actually help us on this journey. We shouldn’t swim against them, we should just be aware of where we are going and go with the flow. We need an extra dose of faith during this cycle! Faith in ourselves and the universe. We should trust what we have worked through until here and trust that the universe is delivering exactly what is best for us now in this new beginning.

April 9th: First Quarter Moon at 19°24’ of Cancer

Moon in harmony (trine) with Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces

Venus in Pisces

There can be a lot of imagination, unconscious messages, vivid dreams, inspirations. You want to touch the higher realms of your human experience, to reach a more refined and amused state of being. This is magical energy we should use to make our experience of reality much softer and loving. Adds to it that Venus has just entered Pisces, adding romanticism, idealism and sensibility to our relationships.

But we need to invest in our emotional well-being to complete this cycle successfully. You should protect yourself, your energy, take care of your emotional needs, your vulnerabilities, your weakness so you don’t feel threatened. This is about emotional health. You should feel comfortable in your home and with your loved ones. You should experience emotional fulfillment and also be comfortable in your own skin. This is a desire for fluidity and ease that can’t be ignored.

Mercury in potential harmony (sextile) with Mars and Saturn

Mercury in tension (square) with Pluto

This is about being very intentional in your actions, being assertive in your communications, and making powerful connections. It’s about communicating with responsibility and commitment, sticking to the core essence of a situation. We should communicate what is real, concrete and solid about the groups we participate in, where these groups are going, what is next and what actions are to be taken inside them. There is leadership coming from authoritative people, whose actions and commands are highly revolutionary and impactful, opening a door for that mental vision we may be holding (created on the new moon).

April 16th: Full Moon at 26°45’ of Libra

Sun and Moon in tension (square) with Pluto in Capricorn

Moon in harmony (trine) with Saturn in Aquarius

Sun in potential harmony (sextile) with Saturn in Aquarius

Venus in potential harmony (sextile) with Mercury and Uranus in Taurus

This full moon asks us to be very polite, diplomatic, peaceful and gentle with one another. This may open up great innovations and attract just what we want for ourselves. And it can be sudden and unexpected. So we should trust it! We should couple this opportunity for peace with faith that whichever innovations and changes are opening up for us will be for our best.

There can be a completion of some sort around a personal mission, objective or goal (Aries), leading to results (Saturn). There can be justice and important decisions being made, which affect our lives on a personal level. This completion of a task may have a deeply transformative outcome. It can be an intense, remarkable and life changing transformation (Pluto) of old structures of some sort (Capricorn).

Mars in Pisces

But it really is a time to fence off for a while. Take a rest, leave your battles for a moment so you can recover. One step of this journey is over, but you don’t want to rush into the next phase without taking everything into consideration. You need an extra dose of moderation to deal with an obsessive or too emotional impulse.

First Venus, then Mars entering Pisces, give us a softening of energies. There is a pause for dreaming, escaping routine, meditating, just giving yourself some relaxing time amongst it all.

Mercury united with (conjunct) Uranus in Taurus

We may start to have insight about “revolutions” and changes we need to do just around the corner. Not rushing into anything, but considering your next steps very carefully (Taurus). There is a fastening of the changes, but Mercury in Taurus wants to make sure we don’t skip any step but, actually, enjoy each step of the way.

April 23rd: Last Quarter Moon at 3°18’ of Aquarius

Sun in Taurus, in potential harmony (sextile) with Mars in Pisces

Mercury closer to North Node in Taurus, in tension (square) with Saturn in Aquarius

Venus closer to Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces, in potential harmony (sextile) with Mercury and the North Node in Taurus

You may be seeing some of your efforts start to give results. There is something strengthening in your life. It really is time to be practical and disciplined so you don’t make mistakes around any of your responsibilities. Saturn wants you to show up now, and it will test you to guarantee that you have it clear and self-assured what direction you are moving towards (North Node). You are communicating or negotiating the practical terms (Taurus) of your next move.

The last quarter moon in Aquarius is gathering everything that has been learned lately to generate some sort of change or innovation. It is preparing you for the practical steps to be taken during the next lunar cycle, in Taurus. And we want it to be aligned with our highest ideals, our dreams and inspirations (Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Neptune in Pisces). We want to go for the big fish!
