January 21st: Aquarius New Moon
Sun and Moon conjunct at 1°32’ of Aquarius
Sun and Moon conjunct Pluto in Capricorn’s last degrees
Aquarius is a sign ruled by Saturn, just like Capricorn, but not Saturn only. Aquarius is co-ruled by Uranus, and that changes everything. If in Capricorn we have been called to mature and take the responsibility, now, in Aquarius, we are being called to start a process of liberation.
We are supposed to do things differently than before, differently than we used to do them, simply because when we enter Aquarius things don’t work the same way they did before. After we have (hopefully) given our best in Capricorn to accomplish a personal goal, applied all time and effort, now, in Aquarius, we are supposed to innovate and connect to others. And that is not easy when we may feel tired and want to rest.
Actually, in Aquarius, we are called to stretch ourselves a bit more, so we can move beyond some very hard walls we have built for ourselves, out of self-protection and for the strengthening of the soul. Justified, yes. But now, in Aquarius, we are supposed to understand that we should go further, that we haven’t just yet achieved the end of the road, that we are not alone. There is more ahead, and yes, there is hope, there are dreams to fulfill and more connections to be made!
And remember that this is a calling from the Aquarian sector of your chart! It is about making changes and adaptations, so you can become lighter. This is the area of your life where you are being called to make innovations so progress can continue beyond your ego boundaries. That means you are supposed to go beyond your own personal fulfillment and touch the mystery of the soul, how we are all connected to help one another fulfill each other's dreams.
The weight of responsibility may have felt heavy in the last cycle of Capricorn, and now in Aquarius we should dispose of it a little. It shouldn’t be so heavy that we get all rigid and energetically stuck. This is a time to let go of control, and be willing to work with others, and be willing to share not only the responsibility but also the rewards from all our hard work.
So, Aquarius is a time of sharing. Sharing knowledge, sharing work and progress as a collective more than an individual. Aquarius is a time of emotional detachment, when we are called to be less concerned with our individual matters, so we can relate to others in a more unattached manner because we start to understand what a group means, and what it means to make efforts for the good of the group, for the good of each individual, in their own reality. In Aquarius we start to see how important the group is, how important each person is in a group, each person with their own unique understanding of life, and how each of them is a part of our own souls.
And that’s the revolution that Aquarius brings to consciousness. We start to see how people and situations correlate in our lives, how they form a pattern of energy around us in response to our own energy, and how our souls are always trying to expand in response to them. And as a consequence of this perception, we can be more intuitive, we can feel what and who is really good for us, for our energy, and also what and who is not good for our energy. And we start to see union and separation as natural processes, of connection and disconnection of energies, when they are supportive or not. We can then understand that we can start to change our lives too. We can change what feels wrong because we can understand that it doesn’t bring progress, doesn't help our souls grow.
And then, comes the liberation process. Liberation from soul limiting situations and relationships. Liberation from what holds us back, what imprisons us in the past, in repetitive cycles and ineffective patterns of behavior. Aquarius calls for progress, for things to change for the better and whatever stays in our way to our soul growth, must be removed somehow. And it can be hard, because we may be attached to certain things and people, we may even be emotionally dependent on them. But if a situation or relationship hasn’t supported our soul growth and progress, we will have to accept some changes in it, even some breakthroughs.
Saturn and Uranus are the planetary rulers of Aquarius, and they have been in square (90 degrees apart from each other - a stressful aspect) for about two years recently. This means there has been a stressful push to change, individually and collectively, on structural layers of our lives. This is the so-called “Aquarian Age” - a change in structures, a change which calls for collective support and community values, based on each individual’s soul growth. This is about the creation of groups of people which allow spiritual potential to blossom in each individual.
Innovation, breaking paradigms, going beyond the traditional and conventional are keywords for Aquarius. Pluto, very close to this new moon, adds intensity to this, making a pressure that comes from the old order, a pressure to change because there are things that just don’t work anymore. There are things depleted and just outdated, which we are somehow ready to overcome.

Our insights now can help us take action to expand, initiating a new phase in our consciousness. Jupiter in Aries is helping us believe in ourselves. Mars in Gemini, now direct, is helping us in taking intelligent action that supports the changes we want to make. We can communicate with more assertion and make the right connections that will help us expand.
We know we can do it, because we believe so (Jupiter in Aries) and now we can actually do it, because we already know what to do. I hope that makes sense to you (haha).
The thing is that we have been given time to think and process everything with the retrogradations of Mercury and Mars. Now it is time to put our plans to action.
Mercury in Capricorn trine North Node, sextile South Node
Yod configuration: Mercury, Mars, South Node

Now, our action course can actually become very clear and things may just get together to put us on a path right ahead. And that’s because of the Yod configuration between Mercury, the South Node and Mars as the focal point. We may be presented with a course of action, and probably not for the first time because Mars has already been here when retrograde. But now, with Mercury in exact trine to the North Node, there is divine timing for something in our lives, and we shouldn’t miss the opportunity!
But of course, we have to play our role in this. Mercury in Capricorn helps us to be mature with our self-expression, with our plans and words. And if we use this maturity and responsibility of Mercury in Capricorn to make the right connections, speak the right words and sign the right documents, then we will certainly be led to the changes our soul needs at this time of our lives.
Now, the challenge with Mercury in Capricorn comes from Jupiter in Aries, where it must be clear to us, at this point, that maturity and responsibility must come from within. In other words, we can’t give our power to others by letting them tell us what we must do. This awareness of our own responsibilities, our own dharma in life, is something that only we can embody. We must accept our dharma with all our hearts, and not merely as an order from outside of us. Otherwise, we just won’t have the necessary energy for it, and for what comes after it.
Venus conjunct Saturn in Aquarius
This is a time to take responsibility for our choices. It is a time for choosing wisely, maturely and responsibly. Choosing what fosters progress, choosing what is in your future, what has your name on it. We should choose what supports change and progress, and what can be reliable in the long-term. At the same time, we should also choose what is good for everybody and not just us.
I know that these kinds of choices and decisions aren't easy to make, and most of us would prefer to have a guideline from an authoritative figure, someone who could tell us what is the best thing to do. But there is a time when these decisions are up to us to make, because we are in the position of the authoritative figure, even if we don’t see ourselves that way.
Now, Venus conjunct Saturn in Aquarius is helping us to see where it is that the responsibility is totally ours, and decision making is totally on our own. We must be aware that the consequences of our decisions are also up to us to handle. And that’s why this period calls for the use and practice of all we have learned and dealt with that has been difficult or heavy to us. We are supposed to apply all our wisdom to make wise choices now.
We must be aware that, in Aquarius, our decisions impact other people, because in Aquarius we learn that we are all connected. Our decisions impact especially those who take us as a model or follow us, like our children and students, and we should be aware of our responsibilities to them.
This is a time for choosing what is supportive of our soul growth, and that means the collective we support and sustain somehow. It can be your family, group of friends, community and even humanity. It doesn’t matter the size of the group we are sort of responsible for, the responsibility we have to them is a spiritual one.
Now, Venus conjunct Saturn in Aquarius can bring to the spotlight some powerful revolutionary women. Both on an individual and collective level, we will see these women making efforts to manage finances, to generate abundance and well-being for their groups.
